The winery, which has existed since 1722, is located at the foot of Stift Göttweig, on the southern bank of the Danube between Krems and the Göttweiger Berg, and is now run by Michael Malat in the 10th generation. It is one of those wineries that produce top-quality products in all areas. White, red, sparkling and sweet - and exclusively from the grapes grown in their own 40 hectares of vineyards.

The name Malat is associated with an important piece of Austrian wine history. Enormous achievements in the vinification of white and red wines, consistent quality work and innovative strength have made the winery in Palt a major player among Austrian wineries and internationally renowned. The path to the top was the product of intensive efforts to achieve a high standard and total commitment: meticulous foliage and soil work, manual harvesting, extremely gentle pressing, deliberately slow fermentation times and very sensitive vinification.

This region is characterized by a particularly favourable microclimate. White and red wines thrive on primary rock, loess-gravel mixtures and loam. This explains the high proportion of red wines, a good third for a region dominated by white wines. Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris as well as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Laurent and Zweigelt are cultivated. And of course the hand-shaken Brut, Austria's first vintner's sparkling wine.
