Bet you’ve never seen this!

In DIE GARTEN TULLN everyone discovers plants they’ve never seen before. Mount Etna broom, desert willow, Mexican petunias. The beds are bursting with magnificent plants and colourful compositions. For example in the Portuguese garden which creates a connection between the elements of water and wine, flowers and art. Water bands run through the garden and are testimony of the voyages of discovery of the seafaring nation of Portugal.

From the Rose Garden to the 60-minute Garden

Whilst you can discover dozens of variations of the “King of flowers” in the Rose Garden, the “60-minute Garden” offers inspiration for how you can create an easy to maintain feel-good oasis at home.  Here a natural hedge, berry bushes and regional shrubs combine with a natural pond to form a harmonious whole. A good place in which to take a break under the shade of the trees.

Three options for a culinary break

And talking of break: culinary treats are available at several points throughout DIE GARTEN TULLN. Just after the entrance, the DIE GÄRTNEREI restaurant offers a view of the water lily pond and fountains. For a taste of regional wines, visit the Wein.Ge.Nuss wine store. The Bavarian Beer Garden, meanwhile, serves hearty snacks and beer.

High up & deep down in the wetlands

The best view of the whole area can be enjoyed from the 30 metre high treetop walk. It’s also possible to get to the top by lift - barrier-free like most of the site. From the top you can admire the view of the show gardens as well as the floodplain forest island and the water park. The park is also located in the admission-free area. Here you can also stroll around to your heart’s content without a ticket! Pedalos and canoes are also available - ideally reserve online in advance.

Insider tips from gardener Susanne Leeb
Which show garden shouldn’t I miss?

Our prairie bed - one of our new additions. Climate change means we also need to rethink the way we garden and use different plants. Take, for example, the popular common hydrangea which doesn’t like heat or dryness. With our prairie bed we show which plants work in these conditions, some even without watering. DIE GARTEN TULLN offers very practical solutions. Many visitors come here to get ideas for at home.

What’s a current topic?

We’re busy with all aspects of ecological gardening: in the Butterfly Garden we show how to create a garden which attracts many useful insects. Alongside flowering plants here it’s also best to use food plants for the caterpillars - for example hawthorn or eared willow.  A water area and logs are also a good idea for the butterflies’ search for a mate!

What can I do if I only have a small balcony at home?

We show how to garden even on the smallest area - for example with a small, self-sufficient balcony.  Here we plant fruit, vegetables and salad in a new growing system out of larch on the balcony. Another highlight not to missed!

There are free open tours at 1.30 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays as well as individual group tours.

DID YOU KNOW...?

In the nearby Wasserpark, revitalized side arms of the Danube and an attractive system of paths offer a very special encounter with nature for all visitors, including those with limited mobility. On five kilometers of waterways, the branched water system can be explored in a canoe or a paddle boat along with the biodiverse range of natural plants along the banks and in the water.
