Current situation

We are pleased about the interest in our region!

The water levels of the Danube have already fallen in the entire Lower Austrian Danube region. Most places in the region have good flood protection, which has protected them from major damage. Hiking is also possible again, but we ask you to be careful when spending time in the great outdoors, as fallen trees or small debris can block the paths.

Most excursion destinations between the Nibelungengau and the Carnuntum region are also open, especially the top excursion destinations along the Danube.

Danube cycle path

Closure of the Danube cycle path:

Due to clean-up work after the flood, the Danube cycle path in Lower Austria is currently only accessible to a limited extent. The route from Ennsdorf (Upper Austria) to Krems is passable on both sides of the bank, but with obstacles. The section from Krems to Vienna is currently only partially accessible and is not fully accessible due to a lack of diversions. We recommend continuing your tour from Vienna and avoiding the affected area

On the Danube Cycle Path Stage 5 South Bank: Melk - Mautern, the cycle ferry between Aggsbach-Dorf and Aggstein is back in operation.

Due to the flooding in recent weeks, there may still be local disruptions in some areas.  Please note local diversions and messages.

Ferry operations and shipping

DDSG liner shipping starts on Saturday, September 21st. back in the Wachau!
Please note the current information about the timetable, Dürnstein cannot currently be reached.

The following ferry service has been suspended due to the high water level of the Danube:

  • between Haslau and Orth on the Danube

Public transport - bus & train

The regional bus routes 715 on the left bank of the Danube and 720 on the right bank of the Danube are in use again.
