In brief, “Above the roof of the Danube” combines, in only two hiking stages, the wine growing landscape of the Wachau with the nature park by the Jauerling, the highest mountain along the Danube, with its stunning views. More than 700 metres in height separate the bank of the Danube from the peak. There is a continuous ascent yet no dangerous sections.
The hosts provide a snack along the way and the transport of luggage to the next accommodation.
Day 1 – Arrival

Day 2 – Spitz – Mühldorf (World Heritage Trail section 4) Path length 11.2 km – walking time 4 hrs
This somewhat challenging section includes the highest and steepest wine terraces of the Wachau, light oak and beech forests and stunning views across the Danube.

Day 3 – Mühldorf - Spitz – return home (Jauerling circular trail 07) Path length 14.3 km – walking time 5 hrs
