    The tour starts at the castle in Leiben and on through Weinzierl via the „Henzing“. Along the road to Urfahr, where you cross the main road. Afterwards you walk along the Danube cycle path following direction power station Melk. This is the point where long distance trail Nibelungengau and Wachau World Heritage Trail meet. Now you pass castle Luberegg to make your way to Rantenberg and Emmersdorf.

    The Nibelungengau long distance trail is split up into 8 stages and can be passed through in both directions. Signs along the way will help you to find the right direction.

    Turn-by-turn directions

    The tour starts at the castle in Leiben. The approximately 800-year-old castle thrones on a massive and steep rock and marks the transition from the southern part of the rough woodquarter into picturesque Danube valley in a very impressive way. Slighltly uphill you walk through Weinzierl via the “Henzing” and then along the road down to Urfahr, where you cross the main road. In Urfahr you walk along the Danube cycle path following direction power station Melk. This is the point where long distance trail Nibelungengau and Wachau World Heritage Trail meet. Now you pass castle Luberegg and walk on to Rantenberg. From now on the way leads down to Emmersdorf.

    Power station Melk connects the north with the south shore of the Danube river and you can enjoy a direct view of Melk abbey. It is possible to cross the Danube following Wachau World Heritage Trail towards Melk.

    Public transport

    With the Austrian Federal Railway (ÖBB) you travel to trainstation Melk (timetable). From the trainstation you can take a bus (Postbus) to Leiben here.

    Directions

    Highway A1 until exit Pöchlarn, then take the first exit at the roundabout, and after about 1 kilometer turn left following direction „Donaubrücke“ (Danube bridge). Cross the bridge, stay right and follow road B3 to Ebersdorf. In the village of Ebersdorf you turn left to drive up to Leiben.

    Approaching from Grein or Krems, country road B3 leads you directly to Ebersdorf and in the village you turn left approaching from Grein or you turn right approaching from Krems to drive up to Leiben.
